Reason behind you are getting your harddisk as portable harddisk instead of internal harddisk ? Computer’s BIOS determine that your device is removable instead of internal storage and it’s depends on motherboard’s sata ports. The driver of motherboard consider that SATA port is connected as removable or external. you can set it up if you have proper driver with application installed. You will have option to change storage type from your storage driver’s software, Just change it to Internal Storage from Removable or external device type.

How to solve it ?

First, Check your system’s BIOS if there is any option to change mode.

Second, open “Device Manager” if you doesn’t know then below is the steps to open “Device Manager” step :

1) Open Command Prompt with administrator rights, you can open it by right click on command prompt and Run as Administrator

2) In command prompt window you have to type command “devmgmt.msc” (without quotes) and then hit Enter.

3) Now under “Disk Drives” you will get disk drives which are connected to your computer.

Here you will have to identify that device, just right click on that disk and open properties, here select “Details” tab and under property dropdown list you have to select “Location Information” and you will get bus number. Note down that bus number for example you will get as below :

Bus Number 0, Target id 0, Lun 0

So here your bus number is 0. It’s depends on your system.

Now if you have windows 7 then follow below steps :

A) Type the following command prompt (with run as administrator) :

reg.exe add
“HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci\Controller0\Channelx\” /f
 /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

Where “x” stands for the Bus Number you noted from device manager’s disk information.

If you have windows 8 or later then follow below steps :

B) Type the following command prompt (with run as administrator) :

reg.exe add “HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci\Parameters\Device” /f /v TreatAsInternalPort /t REG_MULTI_SZ /d x

Where “x” stands for the Bus Number you noted from device manager’s disk information.
